I was born and raised in a small beach town on the east coast of Florida not far from Cape Kennedy, called, of all things... Satellite Beach. I don't know how many Saturn 5 and Atlas rocket launches I watched while sitting on my surfboard waiting for the next set of waves to roll in, but I've never gotten bored with any of the hype surrounding the space program.
To this day I'm fascinated with how things work, how to fix things, or how to make them work better. It's probably because I watched my old man fix so many things around the house--from radios to dishwashers, or building television antennas, even gun smithing--that nothing seemed impossible. I guess that's where I got my interest in how things worked and probably how I was destined to be an engineer. I suppose it was the day I created a visual interface to our Global Positioning system receiver out of nothing more than some LED lights, a few resistors, a computer connector, and held it all together with silicon cement that I acquired the reputation as "McGyver". You know, the guy that takes a paperclip, some duct tape, and a ball-point pen, and makes a contraption that saves the day. The contraption, by the way, is still referred to as "The Evanizer". Although I'll never admit it, I get a kick out of doing a bit of McGyvering at my job, and, yes, even around my house. Is this the point where I should mention that I have a Patent Pending?
I own a home barely 50 yards from Florida's Intracoastal Waterway. It's my quiet little sanctuary, shaded with sweet gums and ancient oak trees, where I find great solace in the peace and serenity surrounding the property. I love working around the house doing home improvements and yard work. Afterwards, I'll kick back with cold drink as I relax in the hammock or feed the goldfish in the pond that I built. The only thing that breaks the quiet is hearing the call of the Osprey overhead as he returns from the river with his catch.
For fun and fitness I compete in triathlons (swim, bike, run), play racquetball, softball, volleyball, lift weights, skeet and pistol shoot, dabble in autocross motor racing, scuba dive, surf, hold belts in Mu Duk Kwan and Tae Kwon Do. I also roller-blade, skateboard, water-ski, and can sometimes even be found on a golf course.
